日本語

With my my mom having been born in Japan, many of the things she says are in Japanese. I can understand and speak it (not quite fluently), but I have a lot to improve on with reading, writing, and grammar. In college I am hoping to study Japanese along with whichever major I end up settling on.
One opportunity I've heard of family friends doing in the past is learning a foreign language and teaching English in that particular country. If living in Japan would be too much of a hassle for me, there is always an opportunity of becoming a Japanese teacher or a translator for businesses, individuals, etc. Living in Japan does sound nice though, of the 7 or so times I've been there, I've loved every part of it.

  1. Nicole, I think it is extraordinary for you to know how to understand Japanese, let alone speak it. I think mastering this language could really help you in any career that you choose, therefore leading to more success. Living in Japan would be a huge change, but if you really are compassionate about it, go for it!

  2. Nicole, you know english, spanish, and japanese?! That's so cool.I guess that makes you tri-lingual? I've been to Japan once and it was only for a short layover. I've heard that some programs for those who want to teach english in a foreign country sometimes pay for your air fare and housing but I'm not entirely sure about this. Being fluent in japanese is a great skill to have since you'll be meeting people from a wide range of cultures in your life. You may not use it everyday but at least you can say that you legitimately know japanese! :)

  3. Nicole, I think that's really great you want to study Japanese! Maybe you could major in business or economics and work in Japan? Or try and find a program that is offered in Japan and study abroad there! I think that as long as you're passionate about it you'll find a way to work it into your college experience. Good luck! :)

  5. I think it's really great that you want to continue studying and learning Japanese and bilingual people always have a better chance of getting jobs. It'd also be amazing to live in Japan and teach students English, I think you'd be a great teacher. Good luck!
